Thanks to the thousands of mobile phone base stations, you can now make calls and download data practically anywhere in Switzerland with a mobile phone. The other side of the coin of this coverage of the whole territory is an overall increase in the high frequency radiation emitted by the antennas. Near these mobile phone installations, the load varies during the day depending on the amount of data transmitted. Since mobile phones are used in close proximity to the head, however, users are exposed to a significantly higher load than any base station.

A majority of the Swiss population now owns a mobile phone. More than 18,000 base stations for mobile telephony ensure that we can use these phones practically throughout the country.

A mobile telephone antenna does not emit in the same way in all directions. Due to this peculiarity, it is not only the distance from the antenna that matters in the assessment of the radiation load present in the environment, but also the direction of propagation.
